Can You Play Teen Patti for Real Money in India?
No, not online. Since 1 May 2026, India's Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025 has prohibited online money games across the country, and Teen Patti played online for money is one of them. It makes no difference whether the site is run from India or from abroad, or whether Teen Patti counts as a game of skill.

What changed
For years, playing Teen Patti online for money sat in a legal grey area. Gaming sites based outside India took Indian players, and Indian apps ran cash tables, while the gambling laws, written long before the internet, said nothing clear about either.
The 2025 Act ended that. It defines an online money game as one played by paying fees or staking money “in expectation of winning”, whether it is based on skill, chance or both, and it:
- prohibits offering online money games, including from outside India (sections 1(2) and 5);
- prohibits advertising that promotes them (section 6);
- stops banks and payment services from handling payments for them (section 7);
- lets the government block sites that break these rules (section 14).
India's own gaming apps shut their cash games in August 2025, when Parliament passed the Act, and the Act and its Rules have applied since 1 May 2026. This page used to rank gaming sites that offered Teen Patti for money. We have withdrawn that ranking.
What is still allowed
- Free Teen Patti with play chips. A game with no stakes and nothing to win is an online social game under the Act (section 2(1)(i)), and the Act does not prohibit social games. Our free Teen Patti table is one: the chips are free, cannot be bought or cashed out, and there are no prizes.
- Teen Patti at home. Games played in person, with family or friends, are a matter for state gambling laws, which differ from state to state. A game for no stakes, or for points, is simply a card game.
