How to play King Little
King Little is one of the wildest Teen Patti variations. Every King in the deck is a joker, and so is the lowest card in each player's hand, so everyone holds at least one joker and a King means a trail. Here is how the jokers work, what beats what, and how to read your hand.
How the jokers work in King Little
The name says it: the King and the little card. Kings are wild wherever they turn up, and in every hand the smallest card is wild as well. The ace counts high, as it always does in Teen Patti, so in A-5-9 the Five is the joker.
A joker becomes whatever card gives you the best hand. With one joker, look at your other two cards: a pair becomes a trail, two cards that fit a run become the best run they can make (pure if they share a suit), two cards of one suit become a colour with the joker as the ace, and anything else becomes a pair of your higher card.
With a King you have two jokers, the King and your lowest card, and two jokers always make a trail of the third card: K-Q-4 is three Queens and K-5-9 three Nines. Two Kings make three Aces, the best hand in the game.
When two cards tie for lowest
If your two lowest cards share a rank, only one of them becomes the joker. With 2-2-8 one Two is wild and the other stays a Two, so the joker pairs your Eight. A natural trail keeps its rank: 5-5-5 is still three Fives, with one Five as the joker.
Some home tables make every card of the lowest rank wild, which turns 2-2-8 into three Eights. Agree on it before you play; our table makes one card wild.

Who wins? Worked examples
Each pair of hands below is compared by the King Little rules. Starred cards in the pictures are jokers.
- K♠Q♦4♣Trail of Queens (2 jokers)J♠J♦10♣Trail of Jacks (1 joker)
First hand wins. The King and the Four make three Queens. J-J-10 has a joker too, the Ten, but it only makes three Jacks.
- K♠5♦9♣Trail of Nines (2 jokers)Q♥J♥2♥Pure sequence, King high (1 joker)
First hand wins. A King means two jokers and three Nines, which beat the K-Q-J of hearts the Two makes.
- 2♠2♦8♣Pair of Eights (1 joker)Q♠8♦3♣Pair of Queens (1 joker)
Second hand wins. Only one Two is wild, so 2-2-8 is a pair of Eights, and the Three pairs the other hand's Queen.
- A♠5♦9♣Pair of Aces (1 joker)A♣3♥8♠Pair of Aces (1 joker)
First hand wins. The ace is high, so the low card is the joker in both hands and both make a pair of Aces. The odd Nine beats the odd Eight.
- K♠K♦5♣Trail of Aces (3 jokers)A♥A♦9♣Trail of Aces (1 joker)
Equal hands. Two Kings and a low card are three jokers, three Aces; a pair of Aces with the low Nine is three Aces too. The player who asked for the show loses.
Betting, show and side show in King Little
Nothing about the betting changes. Everyone posts the boot, blind players bet the stake and seen players twice the stake, and you can pack at any turn. A show is possible once two players are left, and a seen player can ask the previous seen player for a side show while three or more remain.
When hands are compared, every joker is played at its best, and a joker hand is worth the same as the natural hand it makes, so ties come up more often than in a classic game. On equal hands the player who asked for the show or side show loses, and equal hands at a pot-limit showdown split the pot.
What the odds look like
About one hand in five holds a King, and with your low card that is always a trail. Add the pairs a low joker turns into trails and about 29 hands in 100 are trails. Runs make up about 29 in 100 more, colours about 10 and pairs about 31, and there are no plain high cards at all.
King Little tips
- Look for a King first. One King means a trail, whatever else you hold.
- A pair is the worst kind of hand here, not a decent one: a pair of Queens beats fewer than one hand in five.
- Your lowest card is wild anyway, so what counts is how well your two higher cards fit together: a pair, two cards close in rank, or two of one suit.
- Trails are common, so a low trail is good but not safe: three Twos beat about 61 hands in 100, three Nines about 80.
Where versions differ
Some home games make every card of the lowest rank wild, so 2-2-8 becomes three Eights. Here only one card is the lowest, so 2-2-8 is a pair of Eights, and a natural trail such as 5-5-5 keeps its rank.
King Little questions

Is the ace low in King Little?
No. The ace counts high, as in classic Teen Patti, so in A-5-9 the Five is the joker.
What if I hold two Kings?
Two Kings always make three Aces, the best hand in the game: your third card is either your lowest card, and so a joker too, or an Ace.
Can a hand have no joker in King Little?
No. Every hand has a lowest card, so every hand holds at least one joker and there is no plain high card.
Can I play King Little free?
Yes, on the table at the top of this page. It plays King Little with play chips only, against four computer opponents. There is no real money, nothing to buy and nothing to cash out.
